Title - On the Role of 5G in Automotive Industry
Abstract:
This talk is on how 5G can support transformation in the automotive industry. On a high-level one can leverage on existing infrastructure and device support, while complementing with 5G radio technology for more advanced services. Although it is not easy to know who should and will pay for this in the end, there will perhaps be customer driven payments for enjoying information and entertainment services while a common good like traffic safety perhaps will be contributed to by everyone. Part from technical solutions that enable the system to run, the system must also be secured from potential attacks (e.g. how much personal location information should be stored and possible to access by others?). Given that all this is in place, will we be able to sort out the legal aspects both on national levels and in cross-border regions?
Biography

Mikael Fallgren is a Senior Researcher at Ericsson Research, Stockholm, Sweden. He has received a M.Sc. degree in engineering physics and a Ph.D. degree in applied and computational mathematics from KTH (the Royal Institute of Technology), Stockholm, and a B.Sc. degree in business administration from Stockholm University.
His research interests include V2X and wireless access networks. In the METIS project he led the work on scenarios and requirements as well as on dissemination and standardization. He was editor for two chapters of the book: 5G Mobile and wireless communications technology. Dr Fallgren is the 5GCAR project coordinator(5gcar.eu).

Title - Looking at 5G and Beyond from the Land of Guglielmo Marconi
Abstract:
Starting from the historical prediction of personal communications by Guglielmo Marconi in 1936, and an analysis of the role of telecommunications in the Information and Post-Information Society, we will report on the recent 5G spectrum auction outcomes in Italy, and then look at a few research questions and results concerning the RAN of 5G (and beyond) systems.

Giovanni Emanuele Corazza is a Full Professor at Alma Mater Studiorum University of Bologna, President of the CINECA consortium for supercomputing, founder of the Marconi Institute for Creativity, President of the Scientific Committee of the Fondazione Guglielmo Marconi, Member of the Marconi Society Board of Directors, and Member of the Partnership Board of the 5G Infrastructure Association
. He was Member of the Board of Directors of the University of Bologna in the years 2012-2018, Head of the Department of Electronics, Computer Science and Systems (DEIS) in the years 2009-2012, Chairman of the School for Telecommunications in the years 2000-2003, Chairman of the Advanced Satellite Mobile Systems Task Force (ASMS TF), Founder and Chairman of the Integral Satcom Initiative (ISI), a European Technology Platform devoted to Satellite Communications, Member of the Board of the 5G Infrastructure Association and Vice-Chairman of the NetWorld2020 European Technology Platform in the years 2013-2016.
In the years 1997-2012, he served as Editor for Communication Theory and Spread Spectrum for the IEEE Transactions on Communications.
He is author of more than 300 papers, and received the Marconi International Fellowship Young Scientist Award in 1995, the IEEE 2009 Satellite Communications Distinguished Service Award, the 2013 Newcom# Best Paper Award, the 2002 IEEE VTS Best System Paper Award, the Best Paper Award at IEEE ISSSTA’98, at IEEE ICT2001, and at ISWCS 2005. His research interests are in creativity and innovation, 5G systems, navigation and positioning.

Biography

José Marcos C. Brito was born in Volta Redonda, Brazil, in 1964. He received the B. S. degree in electronic and telecommunications engineering from National Institute of Telecommunications (Inatel), Brazil, in 1986 and the M. Sc. and Ph.D. degrees from Campinas University (Unicamp), Brazil, in 1998 and 2003, respectively, both in electrical engineering.
He has worked as a professor at Inatel since 1986, since 1990 as a full professor. He has occupied several management positions at Inatel: General Manager of Research & Development Center, Post-Graduation Coordinator, Research & Post-Graduation Director, and General Vice-Director.
Currently, he is the Research & Post-Graduation Director at Inatel, the General Coordinator of Radiocommunication Reference Center at Inatel and the Secretary General of 5G Brasil Project at Telebrasil. His research & development interests include 5G networks, telecommunications systems, digital communications, and performance analysis of telecommunications networks..

Title - Beginning of the season: A Secured Journey
Abstract:
While 5G is concomitant with major technology, architecture and business model introduction, the security, as a sine qua non condition of the digital transformation must make its own transformation. The presentation will introduce Software Defined Security that may be the recipient of these evolutions encompassing protection, detection and remediation while re-using common technology trends (AI, softwarization, virtualization,etc.).

Emmanuel Dotaro is the director of ICT & Security labs at Thales Secure Communications & Information Systems.
He joined Thales in 2009 as director of innovation for C4I systems. Beside his current research & innovation management activity he is involved in various National and European ICT & Cybersecurity initiatives. He serves in both 5G-IA and ECSO PPP’s associations boards as well as various Technical Committees or clusters of the digital ecosystem.
His current areas of interests are network virtualization and softwarization, cloud brokering, security as a service, security policies enforcement in 5G and IoT systems as well as certification, detection,remediation related security topics.

Title - Energy-efficient techniques for 5G cellular and IoT networks
Abstract:
In this talk, we will describe our vision for designing energy-efficient fifth generation (5G) cellular and Internet of Things (IoT) wireless networks. In particular, we will describe energy-efficient techniques recently devised by our research group for channel estimation and interference mitigation in 5G cellular and IoT networks along with activities in measurements, network design, protocols. We will also present novel energy-efficient network architecture concepts, research topics that are being investigated and emerging radio applications.
Biography
Rodrigo C. de Lamare was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in 1975. He received his Diploma in electronic engineering from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro in 1998 and the MSc and PhD degrees in electrical engineering from the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (PUC-Rio) in 2001 and 2004, respectively.
Since January 2006, he has been with the Communications Group, Department of Electronic Engineering, University of York, United Kingdom, where he is a Professor. Since April 2013, he has also been a Professor at PUC-RIO. Dr de Lamare is a senior member of the IEEE and an elected member of the IEEE Signal Processing Theory and Method Technical Committee.
He currently serves as editor for IEEE Transactions on Communications, IEEE Wireless Communications Letters, and as a senior area editor for the IEEE Signal Processing Letters. His research interests lie in communications and signal processing, areas in which he has published over 400 papers in international journals and conferences.

Biography
Wilson Cardoso is Nokia's Chief Solution Officer for Latin America. He has been in this position since 2016 and is responsible for positioning the company's technology strategy in the market including 5G, IOT and the evolution of telecommunications networks. Wilson has an extensive technical and management experience, with in-depth strategic knowledge of the results-driven business. Previously, he was Nokia's Head of Technology for Latin America.
He holds a Ph.D. in Telecommunication Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) (1997) and an MBA in Business Modeling from the Getúlio Vargas Foundation (2003).

Title - Multi-Domain Slice Provision and Federation, in MEC and Telco Cloud environments
Abstract:
The Novel Enablers for Cloud Slicing (NECOS) project addresses the limitations of current cloud computing infrastructures to respond to the demand for new services, as presented in two use-cases, that will drive the whole execution of the project. The first use-case is focused on Telco service provider and is oriented towards the adoption of cloud computing in their large networks. The second use-case is targeting the use of edge clouds to support devices with low computation and storage capacity. The envisaged solution is based on a new concept, the Lightweight Slice Defined Cloud (LSDC), as an approach that extends the virtualization to all the resources in the involved networks and data centers and provides uniform management with a high-level of orchestration. In this talk, we discuss the motivation, objectives, architecture and research challenges of NECOS.
Biography
Rafael Pasquini received his M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in computer engineering from the State University of Campinas in 2006 and 2011, respectively. From 2015 to 2017 he was a Visiting Researcher of the department of Network and Systems Engineering (NSE) at KTH Royal Institute of Technology. Since 2011 he is an Assistant Professor and leads the Distributed Systems and Networks (DSN) research group at the department of Computer Science of the Federal University of Uberlândia.
His research interests include network management, slicing of softwarized infrastructures, machine learning, cloud computing, and software defined networks.
Within such research topics, he is involved in research projects with industry and academia, served as chair of conference tracks and demo sessions, served as guest editors of special issues about slicing and network softwarization, and acts as TPC in many conferences. Currently, his team is part of a BR-EU project named NECOS, composed by 11 partners from both the Brazilian and the European sides.

Abstract:
The presentation will address some views of pending research subject for the evolution of 5G networks, at mid-term. The presentation will address as well areas that need research for subject related with advanced networks, for timeframes after 2025. The discussion will explore (but not be limited to) work developed inside the Network2020 platform, incorporating contributions covering radio, network and service aspects.
Biography

Rui L. Aguiar received his degree in telecommunication engineering in 1990 and his Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering in 2001 from the University of Aveiro. He is currently a Full Professor at the University of Aveiro, responsible for the networking area, and has been previously an adjunct professor at the INI, Carnegie Mellon University. He was a Visiting Research Scholar at Universidade Federal de Uberlândia, Brazil in the last three years.
He is coordinating a research line nationwide in Instituto de Telecomunicações, on the area of Networks and Multimedia. He is leading the Technological Platform on Connected Communities, a regional cross-disciplinary industry-oriented activity on smart environments.
His current research interests are centred on the implementation of advanced wireless networks and systems, with special emphasis on 5G networks and the Future Internet. He has more than 450 published papers in those areas, including standardization contributions to IEEE and IETF. He has served as technical and general chair of several conferences, from IEEE, ACM and IFIP, and is regularly invited for keynotes on 5G and Future Internet networks. He sits on the TPC of all major IEEE ComSoc conferences.
He has extensive participation in national and international projects, of which the best example is his position as Chief Architect of the IST Daidalos project, and has extensive participation in industry technology transfer actions. He is currently associated with the 5G PPP Infrastructure Association and is the current Chair of the steering board of the Networld2020 ETP. He is senior member of IEEE, Portugal ComSoc Chapter Chair, and a member of ACM. He is associated editor of Wiley’s ETT, and Springers’ Wireless Networks and has helped on the launch of Elsevier’s ICT Express. He is a chartered engineer, has acted as a consultant to several major operators, as technology advisor to bootstrap several SMEs, and as an expert to several public bodies, both on the societal and on the judiciary branches. He currently sits on the Advisory Board of several EU-projects and research units.

Biography

Dr. Didier Bourse currently holds the position of Senior Director, European R&I Programs inside Nokia Bell Labs CTO ISG Standardization. He received his diploma degree in telecommunications in 1992 from ENST Br and obtained his PhD degree in 1997 from IRCOM.
Before joining Nokia in January 2016, he worked for Thomson-CSF Communications (military tactical radio), Motorola Labs (cognitive radio and systems) and Alcatel-Lucent Bell Labs (European research cooperation). He has been key contributor to the Future Internet PPP programme pre-definition, the Future Internet Assembly Steering Committee, the EIT KIC ICT Labs proposal building and the 5G Infrastructure PPP programme pre-definition.
He is actively engaged in the 5G Infrastructure PPP internal and external strategy definition (incl. implementation) and is chairing the PPP Technology Board and the Trials Working Group. He is also member of EuCNC Steering Committee and is chairing the DigitalEurope DTI R&I Working Group. He has numerous publications and patents in the areas of communications.

Dr. Takaharu Nakamura joined Fujitsu Laboratories Ltd. in 1983 and moved to Fujitsu Limited in 2003, where he was involved in the development of mobile radio communications systems.
He served as chairman of 3GPP TSG-RAN-WG4 and vice president of 3GPP TSG-RAN. He is appointed as vice president of the Mobile Partners Subcommittee, ARIB Advanced Wireless Communications Study Committee and serving as the acting chair of the Technical Committee, Fifth Generation Mobile Communications Promotion Forum (5GMF).

He has a Ph.D. from the Polytechnic School of the University of São Paulo (2013) and a master's degree. in Computer Science, Federal University of Uberlândia (2004). Graduated in Computer Science from the Federal University of Uberlândia (1993) and held a degree in Electrical Engineering from the Federal University of Uberlândia (1992).
He is an associate professor at the Faculty of Computer Science (FACOM) of the Federal University of Uberlândia (UFU). He holds over twenty-five years of experience in the software development industry, especially in highly available and distributed web-based systems. Also, he has experience in project management using the PMI method, team building, and professional training. Member of the IEEE, ACM, and SBC has several articles published and presented at conferences worldwide and is a reviewer of journals such as the Institute of Electronics and Telecommunications Research (ETRI) and the IEEE Network Magazine. Also, member of the Technical Program Committee (TCP) of several IEEE conferences, such as ICC, SOCA, and NETSOFT. He is an individual member of the FIWARE Foundation and participant in FIWARE Mundus and FIWARE iHub (MSC) mission support committees.
His current research interests are related to Future Networks; Software Defined Networks; Network Function Virtualization; Autonomous, and Intelligent Systems; Cloud Computing; Ubiquitous and Mobile Computing; Software-Based Innovation.
Since 2017 he is the local coordinator at UFU of the H2020 5GINFRE project that aims to establish a 5G NFV-enabled experimental facility to instantiate and support vertical industries that will be provided to different actors of the 5G ecosystem (startups, enterprise, SDOs, operators, academia, research institutes) to experimentally contribute to 5G development and deployment.
Since 2017 he is the local coordinator at UFU of the H2020 5GINFRE project that aims to establish a 5G NFV-enabled experimental facility to instantiate and support vertical industries that will be provided to different actors of the 5G ecosystem (startups, enterprise, SDOs, operators, academia, research institutes) to experimentally contribute to 5G development and deployment.
